American Latvian entrepreneur and professor Andris Zoltners has donated 120,000 US dollars to support the development of the field of mathematics at the University of Latvia by establishing the "Alfreds M. Zoltners Scholars" program. Alfred was Andris' father and his memory will be carried by the new scholarship program, which aims to support outstanding mathematicians so they can create top-level research work at the University of Latvia.

Describing his scholarship, prof. Andris Zoltners says: "I am interested in supporting because my parents loved Latvia, and I am interested in helping young professors develop. Latvia cannot grow without education."

In academic year 2023/2024 the scholarship is received by Maksims Marinaki. He is very grateful for receiving it: "I decided to apply for the Alfreds M. Zoltners scholarship, because it is a good financial support that will allow me to further develop as a researcher even after obtaining my doctorate degree. The scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for young doctors of science to keep working in this field and further develop in different directions".
