Social support scholarship for the first-year bachelor’s programme students of the University of Latvia (UL) in all fields of science. Established on the basis of bequest by the patroness Minna Matilde Vilhelmīne Petkevičs.


The scholarship is intended for those UL first-year bachelor’s programme students who have graduated from secondary school with excellent results and have shown high achievements in both studies and extracurricular activities, and have insufficient means for the studies.

Number of scholarships: not stipulated.

Scholarship amount: EUR 2 200 per academic year.

Scholarship Commission: Patron, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Texas Peter Aloizs Ragaušs, Chairman of the Board of the UL Foundation, Prof. emer. Ivars Lācis, representative of the patron company Arčers, Public Relations Specialist Aiga Dakule, Head of the UL Department of Infrastructure Planning Unit Rolands Parasigs-Parasiņš, Executive Director of the UL Foundation Laila Kundziņa, the UL Foundation scholarship recipient Līga Stokmane Blaua.


Documents required for scholarship application:

  • completed electronic scholarship application form (see below);
  • two letters of recommendation from the director of applicant’s secondary education institution, a teacher, the head of an out-of-school and/or interest education institution, a lecturer or another person who has worked closely with the applicant on projects, etc.;
  • CV or Curriculum Vitae (in Europass format);
  • a free-format essay about applicant’s favourite patron (up to 6 000 characters with spaces);
  • a certificate issued by social services regarding the status of a low-income family;

Within a single academic year, the applicant may receive only one scholarship financed by the patrons of the University of Latvia Foundation.


Application for the scholarship in the 2020/2021 academic year is open until 16 August 2020.
