Jelgava's Municipality Scholarship


Since 2012, Jelgava Municipality has been providing support to young people from their municipality who begin their studies at any higher education institution of Latvia. The purpose of the scholarship is to financially support the young people of Jelgava Municipality to ensure access to education provided by any higher education institution or secondary special education institution in Latvia in the specialties supported by the municipality.


The scholarship is intended for those first-year bachelor’s or professional programme students of all accredited higher education institutions of Latvia, whose officially declared place of residence for at least one year has been in the administrative territory of Jelgava Region.

Number of scholarships: 4.

Scholarship amount: EUR 1 500 per academic year or EUR 150 per month. The scholarship is paid for 10 months (from September to June) each academic year, depending on the duration of the bachelor's study programme or secondary special education programme.

Scholarship Commission: Chairman of the Jelgava Municipality Ziedonis Caune, Head of the Education Department of the Jelgava Municipality Ginta Avotiņa, Chief Specialist of Lifelong Learning Field of the Education Department of the Jelgava Municipality Jānis Erno, Executive Director of the UL Foundation Laila Kundziņa.

In the 2019/2020 academic year – Justīne Dižpētere, Krista Ļūmane, Anna Oseņņikova.
In the 2018/2019 academic year – Liene Roziņa, Agneta Veinberga, Artis Galvanovskis.
In the 2017/2018 academic year – Gerda Poota, Madara Ratniece, Samanta Ose, Laura Reinholde.
In the 2016/2017 academic year – Lelde Jansone, Līva Jansone, Romans Ivanškevičs.


Within a single academic year, the applicant may receive only one scholarship financed by the patrons of the University of Latvia Foundation.


Application for the scholarship in the 2020/2021 academic year is open until 16 August 2020.
