Excellence scholarship for those first-year bachelor’s programme students in all fields of science at the University of Latvia (UL), whose origins are in Latgale. The scholarship was founded in 2019 on the initiative of the American Latvian Peter Aloizs Ragaušs, promoting the growth of young people from his native region.


The scholarship is intended for the UL first-year bachelor’s programme students who have graduated from secondary school with excellent results and have shown high achievements in both studies and extracurricular activities, and whose origin can be found in Latgale – the student himself/herself or at least one of his parents has officially declared their place of residence in Latgale.

Number of scholarships: 2.

Scholarship amount: EUR 2 200 per academic year.

Scholarship Commission: Patron, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Texas Peter Aloizs Ragaušs, representative of the patron company Arčers, Public Relations Specialist Aiga Dakule, Head of the UL Department of Infrastructure Planning Unit Rolands Parasigs-Parasiņš, Executive Director of the UL Foundation Laila Kundziņa, the UL Foundation scholarship recipient Līga Stokmane Blaua.


Documents required for scholarship application:

  • completed electronic scholarship application form (see below);
  • two letters of recommendation from the director of applicant’s secondary education institution, a teacher, the head of an out-of-school and/or interest education institution, a lecturer or another person who has worked closely with the applicant on projects, etc.;
  • CV or Curriculum Vitae (in Europass format);
  • a free-format essay about applicant’s favourite patron (up to 6 000 characters with spaces);
  • a document or certificate certifying that the student or one of his or her parents has officially declared their place of residence in Latgale;

Within a single academic year, the applicant may receive only one scholarship financed by the patrons of the University of Latvia Foundation.


Application for the scholarship in the 2020/2021 academic year is open until 16 August 2020.
