Patron Peter Aloizs Ragaušs (1957) is the board member of "Friends of the University of Latvia" and Baltic-American Freedom Foundation, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Texas and a longtime leader of several prominent US energy companies.

He grew up in Michigan, but his parents and grandparents were born in Latvia. Family roots can be traced to Latgale – mother was from Rogovka, while father came from Viļāni. Some of Peter's grandparents were deported to Siberia, while the other part of the family fled to Germany duringv the World War II, and ultimately reached the United States.

Currently living in Houston, USA, Peter holds several meetings annually with the local Houston Latvian community to honour Latvian national festivities and has recently started hosting Latvian film evenings.

Support

Established in 2019, the Latgale's "Ceļamaize" (Latgale's "Bread for the Journey") scholarship, each academic year supporting two of the most talented first-year undergraduate students of the University of Latvia, whose origins are in Latgale.

In 2019, the patron donated USD 5 000.
