Support

On 20 September 2012, RE&RE signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the University of Latvia Foundation to become a construction partner and supporter of a unique and first-of-its-kind project in Latvia run by the University of Latvia. The project is dedicated to in-depth studies of technologies and materials used in the process of construction.

Within the framework of the project, a testing ground with special buildings was created in the UL Botanical Garden, Riga. Construction of these buildings will enable testing building structures, solutions, raw materials, processes, etc. suitable for Latvian climatic conditions. The aim of the project is to identify and develop solutions for external constructions suitable for Latvian climatic conditions, mainly made of local raw materials, which would allow to provide thermal comfort conditions in premises with low energy consumption.

According to Didzis Putniņš, Director General of RE&RE, "this project goes hand in hand with the principles of sustainable construction, and RE&RE, just like the entire industry, is taking the first steps in this direction. Remarkably, science and research here go hand in hand with practical work, manufacturers, builders. The study of local raw material and construction solution application is one of the most important factors in ensuring a suitable living and working conditions for people and sustainability of environment. Just as nutritionists advise us to eat locally grown vegetables and fruits, we as builders can affirm – we must support, develop solutions that are suitable to our climatic conditions, temperature fluctuations and geographic features. By studying and familiarizing ourselves with the various materials, their properties and changes in the Latvian climate, engineers, architects and ourselves, the builders, will be able to select and use the materials very precisely to increase energy efficiency, contribute to general sustainability of the building, quality of life and harmony of the environment".

The amount of support to project: EUR 13 735.95.

We greatly appreciate the generous support to education and development!
