The company Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) was established in 1992 as the first provider of mobile telecommunication services in Latvia.

Currently, LMT is the leading player in the telecommunications market and communication environment in Latvia. The origin of LMT dates back to 1919 and innovations in electrotechnics at the time when the State Electrotechnics Factory ("Valsts elektrotehnikas fabrika" – VEF) commenced its operations in Riga.

In 2010, President and Chairman of the Board of the LMT, Dr. oec. Juris Binde received a doctorate in economics and business management. J. Binde is the chairman of the UL Advisory Council.

Support

Latvijas Mobilais Telefons provided support to the 8th International Conference "PROFES 2007" held in July 2007. 

Latvijas Mobilais Telefons supported the conference "New Technologies in Electronic Media. Value and Price" held on 1 November 2010, donating EUR 7 850 for the purpose.

Thanks to the LMT support (in the amount of EUR 4 300) the UL Faculty of Computing in August 2011 carried out the project "UL and LMT Computing Days". LMT also supported the competition of young UL music bands in 2011, donating EUR 2 150.

In 2012, LMT for the second time supported the project "UL and LMT Computing Days 2012" with the donation of EUR 4 300.

In 2013, LMT donated EUR 1 710 for "UL Faculty of Business, Management and Economics 2nd Conference on Project Management" and EUR 1 450 for the conference arranged by the UL Faculty of Business, Management and Economics "New Challenges of Economic and Business Development – 2013", whereas in August LMT supported "UL and LMT Computing Days" with EUR 4 300. In 2013, LMT also donated EUR 711.44 for the academic conference "Interactivity of Science and Culture in Latvia and Worldwide", and supported the publication of Academician Jānis Stradiņš’ jubilee monograph in the period from May 2013 to May 2014.

From the autumn of 2013 to April 2014, the students of UL Faculty of Computing jointly with LMT developed a new mobile application LU Ziņnesis ("UL Messenger"), whose purpose was to inform the students about new extracurricular cultural and entertainment events. LMT granted EUR 7 114.36 for the competition.

In 2014, LMT supported the international conference on project management and development organised by the UL Faculty of Business, Management and Economics (EUR 1 560).

In 2015, LMT supported the UL Faculty of Business, Management and Economics conference on project management 2015 (EUR 1 500).

In 2016, LMT supported the international conference "New Challenges of Economic and Business Development – 2016" with the sum of EUR 1 500, and donated EUR 3 500 for the UL Student Business Incubator.

In 2017, LMT continued to support the UL Student Business Incubator with EUR 3 500.

In 2018, LMT supported forum series "Formula of Latvia 2050. Development Scenarios" with EUR 4 900 and the UL Student Business Incubator with EUR 4 000.

In 2019, LMT continued to support forum series "Formula of Latvia 2050. Development Scenarios" with EUR 1 000 and the UL Student Business Incubator with EUR 3 000.
